Technology Transfer Associate with South Bank University & Dorset Village Bakery

My degree was a sandwich course that included a one-year industrial placement. For my placement I was lucky enough to work in Holland for Quest International a company that specialise in flavours and ingredients. I was lucky again to work on beers, investigating the performance of clarification systems (they make the beer clear).

On graduating I spent 2 years in the Quality Assurance departments of catering butchers businesses in the North West and the Midlands. These experiences made me decide to re-focus my career so I applied for and got a Technology Transfer Associate post with South Bank University and Dorset Village Bakery, a company which supplies luxury, wafers and biscuits to an exclusive customer base. I am now reaching the end of my 2 year term and hope to gain an MSc for my research work. Two of the topics I have been investigating are Material Resource Planning and Modified Atmosphere Packaging. In addition, as a result of the research I have been invited to submit two papers for publication.

I have really got the research bug and might go on to do a PhD but Dorset Village Bakery have also offered me a job when my contract ends.

I am pleased I chose to study Food Technology because it has enabled me to secure a rewarding role in the food industry.
